Product artist and trend visionary Philip Pelusi shares the latest haircare trends.
January 14, 2025

Styling is making a comeback for 2025. Over the last several years we have been slowly moving away from the “at home” looks of the pandemic and now, it seems, even past the extremely low maintenance looks that followed. And although airdrying and a minimalistic styling ethos still has its place, trends for 2025 involve a little more effort. And happily, clients seem willing to step up their styling game.
And along with this mentality, styling product use gets a boost in popularity for 2025 too. Consumer demand is still up for earth safe formulations as well as scalp and hair treatment ingredients in just about every product applied. But also the mindset to purposefully apply a product to achieve a specific styling result has returned to the trend scene in full force. So we welcome the challenge to help our clients achieve their luxuriant brunette hues along with two “going strong” haircutting trends that are reaching next-level status for 2025.
We’ve gone through years of blondes or fantasy colors taking the forefront in hair trends. And most certainly these continue to be strongly relevant for 2025. But the more predominant hair color trend for this year is Expensive Brunette hair color. This moniker simply reflects the rich warm earthy tones of this trend along with the hair color’s healthy appearance of depth and shine.
There have been many notable transformations to this hue namely model Kaia Gerber transitioning from light honey highlighted hair to donning a new look of deep, rich chocolate glaze hair color. Also Canadian actress Shay Mitchell recently went from the still popular copper hair color trend to a deep, lush brunette hue.
Expensive Brunettes open a wide variety of popular applications from solid all over hair color with depth and shine to deep caramel highlights or balayage techniques depending on the desired look. But no matter the technique, this trend requires lustrous high-quality looking hair fabric. For our clients a little magic is required, specifically our Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Magic Hair Transformer.
We expanded the name of this product to a well-fitting descriptor of Tela Beauty Organics Magic Hair Transformer, Exquisite Hair Texture Fabric Rejuvenator because it virtually transforms the hair into something truly magical. Key ingredient Pongamia Glabra (Karanja) Seed Oil plays a big role in creating this result. It is derived from the seeds of the Millettia Pinnata tree, native to South and Southeast Asia, it contains 9 fatty acids that nourish, moisturize, and act as antiaging, slip, and heat protection agents.
Pongamia Glabra Seed Oil been used in Ayurvedic medicine to calm and heal skin issues, so it helps the scalp as well. And Pongamia Glabra Seed Oil adds shine, UV protection, plus has natural antimicrobial, soothing, and antioxidant benefits thus helping to protect hair’s strength and hair color from fading.
And as always, we also looked to science in creating this hair transforming wonder to significantly improve the internal structure of the hair. We added the patented chemistry of Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide to Tela Magic. This natural origin bond multiplier strengthens damaged hair fiber three times more than untreated hair. As we know, damaged hair has compromised or broken Disulfide as well as broken Hydrogen Bonds and other linkages. Penetrating deep into the cortex to create new hydrogen and ionic bonds, Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide rejuvenates both damaged beta-keratin as well as strengthens undamaged alpha keratin, resulting in greater overall breakage resistance. Another great side benefit of this incredible ingredient is that it has a good sustainability footprint.
And lastly, for our Expensive Brunette hair color clients, we also are recommending a color enhancing conditioner with our P2 by Philip Pelusi Color Boost in Chocolate Wildberry. This warm toned deep brunette shade can be mixed with any in-shower conditioner or straight onto the hair depending on the intensity of the effect you are looking for. And the longer you leave it on, the deeper the stain on the hair. P2 Color Boost doesn’t take the place of hair color but when applied to similarly hued color treated hair or natural hair color, it gives a boost of warm brunette color enhancement.
It seems all of Hollywood is a getting a bob haircut with Jessica Biel, Joey King, Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian, Elle Fanning, Sydney Sweeney, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez, Rita Ora, Ayo Edebiri, Julianne Hough and Lilly Collins all sporting this new, yet classic, hairdo. So, is it any wonder this trend is still going strong for 2025.
This year’s bob haircuts should look weightless and bouncy with high shine. Additionally their lengths can vary but the most popular and jaw dropping is a chin length bob with a center part. So interestingly, the love for side parts over the last few years is definitely shifting. Hair is styled with a slight bend or wave or its styled smooth and sleek. And although this trend is called an Effortless Bob, some styling effort is most definitely required.
Certainly if you have a naturally smoother hair fabric, then your texture might already be bob friendly. But for most, texture needs an assist. So we are recommending a versatile heat protecting, hair smoothing groom that depending on what product it is mixed with it can either produce greater or less volume.
Our P2 by Philip Pelusi Soft Wax is our styling cornerstone product for today’s bob hairstyles. What’s so unique about it is that it contains Hyaluronic Acid, normally found in hydrating skin care products. This now well touted ingredient is something we have been adding to our hair care formulas going back to the 1970’s. Hyaluronic Acid is also one of the most effective moisture binding heat protectants especially when paired with Polyquaternium-24 it becomes a Biopolymer Complex in our P2 Soft Wax that binds Hyaluronic acid to the damaged hair shaft, providing long lasting moisturization. Heat activated during styling or drying, this product “melts” onto the hair fabric smoothing the cuticle as it is sealed with the brush during styling producing silky shiny, heat protected hair.
But P2 Soft Wax is also a hair styling shape shifter when mixed with our P2 by Philip Pelusi Smart Styling Treatment Increase for more volume or P2 by Philip Pelusi Smart Styling Treatment Decrease for less volume. What’s so unique about these products is their ability to dramatically change the way hair performs without adding any weight to the hair at all. They are called P2 Smart Styling Treatments because their unique microemulsions penetrate into the hair structure to either weightlessly increase or decrease volume from inside the hair strand instead of an additional product layered onto the outside.
So, our bob requesting clients get smoothness and heat protection from the P2 Soft Wax but also help with texture augmentation along with strength, hydration, and color protecting treatment ingredients with either the P2 Increase or P2 Decrease depending on the desired result.
Men’s hairstyling trends have exploded over the last decade with our male clientele equal in interest to project a certain look or personal vibe through their haircut or color. Business norms have changed so gents can still be considered professional looking while wearing facial hair and even more creative cuts and colors. But looking groomed is the key here, so this Textured Crop trend will continue to grow in 2025.
The look is stylish, yet neat and groomed. The top has more length, while the sides are shorter but not tapered close to the scalp and everything is blended from the bottom of the back hairline to the front hairline. And the top is textured so when paired with the right styling groom, the client is able to style their hair easily while still hitting the mark of a groomed textured look. And this is something very important to our male clientele.
For creating the Textured Crop, we recommend two products from our Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Modern Hair Wear Collection. Choose one or the other depending on which finish preferred on the hair. Not only will these products create a modern piecey textured look but they also enhance the scalp and hair with their cutting-edge ingredients.
The Tela Modern Hair Wear Collection, The New Textile for Hair™, provides a modern feel and approach to styling and wearing hair, almost melting into hair creating a new textile. Tela Play Freeform Wax is a thick crème formula that controls like a wax yet is totally moveable. Tela Taffy Pomade Gel is a medium density pomade-like formula with light moveable hold. Both can be applied to wet or dry hair for freeform piecing, grooming and finger styling with zero buildup.
They contain the Tela Hair Immunity Complex of Probiotics and Fermented Kelp Extract to help improve scalp and hair condition. The Tela Hair Immunity Complex™ is a combination of Pre and Probiotics derived from Fermented Kelp Extract, well known to be abundant in the essential minerals, vitamins and amino acids that help strengthen and hydrate the scalp and hair leaving it shiny, full of body, with increased elasticity. Additionally, Kelp is also a key source of antioxidants that help fight oxidation, inflammation of the scalp, and helps protect color and strength from free radical pollutants.
Tela Modern Hair Wear also features Organic Hydrolyzed Quinoa Protein and the Hydro Charged Pelusi Ceramide Complex help strengthen, create shine, increase body, and help preserve color. Plus, USDA Certified Organic Peppermint, Milk Thistle, Honey, Aloe, and Lavender for hydration and weightless heat protection. And lastly, the Tela USDA Certified 35 Organic Ingredient Base Blend and Tela Tea Blend of White, Green and Oolong Tea.
